still life angie: Philly, Pennsylvania; this picture is yoshitomo nara's guitar girl. i stay home with my kidlets--thor and beezus*. in 2008, my second daughter lucy died at 38 weeks of pregnancy. after she died, i started writing about her, her death, parenting, buddhism, how to make sense of the universe and god after, and then anything else that happened to come up in the last however many years since then. i gave up drinking in there, and had thor, which i wrote about on this blog. i started painting mizuko jizo as a form of ritual and memorial and tonglen meditation for her, all the babies gone too soon, and all grieving parents. i am not just about grief, but i think grief is the common thread that ties all humans, whether you lost a child or not. it is the root of suffering and compassion and through our suffering, we can cultivate compassion for all sentient beings. *not their real names.
