Clearly, the dog is an oracle.

Found today in the same exact spot on my office rug where I found the dead bird on Tuesday. I walk into that room a little hesitantly now, peer around the corner and look in. The first thing that crossed my mind was "Is that an actual scarab?"

  1. Ew! I had to wikipedia what that actually was. I'm not sure we get them here, but ew - again.
    Big hugs Angie.

  2. Is it a scarab? I have not seen anything like that.

Ok, it's starting to seem like something is up with your office rug calling dead critters, looking before stepping is wise.

  5. I did do some research: I think it is a pincher beetle. I have never seen one before, except when it ended up dead in my house. (that sounded like a law and order quote). So, let me say that it really isn't surprising that dead things keep showing up in the office. I have a doggie door going into the backyard from the office. And by doggie door, of course I mean, a dog sized hole cut into our screen door. (Hey, he made the hole, we just made it a little straighter.) So, while it seems prophetic to have a dead bird, or a scarab, show up in one's house, I know logically, the puppy is responsible. I am thinking of renaming him Colonel Mustard, so I can say, "Colonel Mustard in the office with his teeth."

  6. AKA Stag Beetle. Wow, I get to use some of my random (useless) knowledge from my Invertebrate Zoology days at college.

Between the dog and the cats, I could start my own collection. My cats catch and kill lizards and bugs. My dog likes to "accidentally" kill birds. I find them in the back yard sometimes. I think it's accidental because the birds aren't damaged - they are just really wet. I think he catches them and licks them to death.

    Aren't pets fun...

  8. We follow ahimsa (non-violence) in my house, but that critter would challenge me. I would be very tempted to scream and squish. Looks like a dung bettle... Any rolling balls of shit in your backyard?

  9. I live WAY far from you, BUT I found a dead one of those on the plant stand on my front porch. It was the first one I had ever seen. Hmm..

  10. Yeah, I have never seen a beetle like that anywhere, except at the Insectarium . BTW, I live outside of Philadelphia, not Ancient Egypt.
